Elizabeth Catherine Jarvis, daughter of John and Mary Smith Jarvis was born Sept 18, 1849 in Montgomery County on a farm two miles east of Waveland. In early childhood the family removed to Parke County. She received her education in the country schools. The family removed to Waveland in 1866 and since that time she has spent her life at the old family place at the west end of Main Street. She united with the Christian Church in 1868 during the services that followed the dedication; was a charter member and remained firm and faithful during her long life. In December 1931 she fell and broke her wrist and two months later suddenly lost her sight and since that time has sat in darkness and for four years has not walked a step alone. She and her sister, Margaret lived together and they were tenderly cared for by the remaining sister, Mrs. Courtney. She passed away Thursday Feb 11. She was the third of a family of nine children. Those remaining are William Jarvis, Margaret Jarvis and Mrs. Virginia Courtney. Funeral services at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Courtney on Saturday afternoon were in charge of Rev. J.C. Burkhart of Crawfordsville, a former pastor of the Christian Church. Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me and In the Garden were sung by Mrs. Lyle Courtney and Mrs. Marcia Courtney Thompson. The pall bearers were Arthur Jarvis, Ben Jarvis, David Skinner, Ronald Courtney, Clifford McCullough and Lyle Courtney. The flowers were carried by Mrs. Dave Skinner, Mrs. Jay Mates, Mrs Gordon Thompson and Mrs. Dollie Duval. Burial in Smith cemetery. Those attending from a distance were Mrs. Mate Carrington and Mr. and Mrs. Jay Mates, Humbold, Ill, Mr. and Mrs. David SKinner, Mrs. Clay Lewis .. sorry rest is gone. - transcribed by kbz

Funeral services were held here (Waveland) for Miss Elizabeth Jarvis, age 87, an old-time school teachers. For years she has been blind. She is survived by two sisters and a brother.
